See what wildlife you can find on a nature walk with our Coastal Ranger!

Join Josh Forrester, Coastal Ranger with North East Lincolnshire Council and their DUNE Project (funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund), for a series of guided nature walks around Cleethorpes Local Nature Reserve and the surrounding areas. These seasonal walks offer a chance to explore the rich wildlife of the Humber Estuary during one of its most important times of year.

Autumn and winter brings thousands of birds, such as waders and wildfowl, to the coastline, resting and feeding in preparation for their long migratory journeys. With Josh as your guide, you’ll learn about the birds and other wildlife that rely on our estuary for survival.

You’ll have the chance to see overwintering ducks, flocks of wading birds and groups of geese within the setting of Cleethorpes’ coastal landscape.

From September to March, Josh will be hosting seven events starting from the Leisure Centre, Boating Lake and Country Park. However, spaces are limited with only 12 people per tour so be sure to book your place by visiting https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/nelc-ecology-116660912741– external site

Get active this National Fitness Day at one of your community facilities

Comments Off on Get active this National Fitness Day at one of your community facilities

From gyms packed with the latest equipment to swimming pools and community classes, North Lincolnshire residents have never had more opportunities to get active – and National Fitness Day – Wednesday 24 September – is the perfect time to start.

Through NL Active, North Lincolnshire Council invests in gyms, swimming pools, community programmes and miles of paths and cycleways across the county – ensuring every community has access to modern facilities and activities that make it easier to stay fit and connected.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Staying active has never been more important for both our physical and mental wellbeing. That’s why we’ve invested heavily in facilities right across North Lincolnshire.

“Wherever you live, there’s a local centre, a community programme or a class designed to help you get moving and feel better. Today, National Fitness Day, is the perfect opportunity to join in.

“If using any of these amazing facilities is not your thing, we’ve hundreds of miles of safe cycleways and paths through the amazing green spaces across North Lincolnshire.

“Whether it’s swimming a few lengths, signing up to the gym, joining a class with friends, getting your children involved, or just stepping out into some of our fantastic parks, woods and foothpaths, we’re committed to delivering opportunities that matter right here on your doorstep.”

From state-of-the-art gyms and swimming pools to hundreds of live and virtual fitness classes, children’s activities, and specialist support for older people, NL Active offers something for everyone.

Residents aged 66 and over can even get two months of free access to gyms, pools and virtual classes, helping more people keep moving for longer.

It comes as more than 7,000 free swimming sessions were taken up by children and young people across North Lincolnshire this summer as part of the council’s Summer Daze offer.

The initiative gave children aged 16 and under free access to swimming sessions throughout the school holidays, helping families stay active and entertained during the six-week break.

Cllr Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for safer, stronger communities (rural), added: “From The Pods in Scunthorpe to Ancholme Leisure Centre in Brigg, Baysgarth in Barton, Riddings, Axholme North Leisure Centre and our many community hubs and libraries, there’s a wide range of offers available for every community.

“We’ve got affordable memberships, pay-as-you-go options, children’s sessions, health programmes and activities for older residents – no matter your age or ability, there’s a way for you to get involved, stay active and enjoy the benefits of being part of your local community.”

Sign up now and start your fitness journey today – visit www.northlincs.gov.uk/nl-active to join online and find your local activities.
